A 33-year-old Mutare woman has been sentenced to 24 months in prison after striking her 11yr old daughter for not doing the dishes.
According to the Zimbabwe National Prosecuting Authority, the accused struck her 11-year-old biological daughter on the right side of the head with a half-brick.
Its reported that the woman, whose identity cannot be revealed in order to protect the minor’s identity, left the complainant and younger brother, whilst she went to town. After returning home, the accused discovered that her 11yr old had neglected to wash her plates. This infuriated the accused, who then struck the minor with a brick on the head.
The accused accompanied the young victim to the clinic where she was treated after she fell and lost consciousness.
A tip off that the accused had struck her young child with a brick led to the investigation of the case. When the victim was interviewed, she disclosed the cruelty.
The accused received a sentence of 24 months in prison, eight of which were suspended, and she will serve 16 months in total.
