Chinese National Goes Beserk In Kwekwe, Shoots 3 Zimbabweans, Killing One.

Cai Yulong, a 58-year-old Chinese national has been arrested in Kwekwe.

Yulong, a miner at Stone Still Mine in Zhombe, appeared at the Kwekwe Magistrates’ court, facing three counts: one for murder, attempted murder, and another for assault.

The National Prosecting Authority of Zimbabwe states that on May 26, 2024, at Blackhand 10 Mine Zhombe Kwekwe, the artisinal gold miners were going about their mining business in a mine shaft when the incident happened.

Goni Goni, Komborerai Shariwa, John Muchawaya, and Lovemore Mapfanya, all of Village Tirivanhu, Chief Njelele, Gokwe, were working underground.

The accused person’s mine has a shaft that the four artisinal miners allegedly encroached on, which anger Yulong. According to the charge sheet, Goni Goni was shot once in the left thigh by the accused, who was allegedly carrying a pistol.

Goni Goni eventually succumbed to the gun shot wound a short while later.

Another victim, John Muchawaya, is also said to have been shot three times by Yulong, sustaining injuries in the left knee, once in the right ankle, and once in the left thigh. The former  is presently admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

According to additional claims, Yulong also struck Lovemore Mapfanya once in the forehead with a fist. Mapfanya left the area and reported the matter to the police, which resulted in the accused being taken into custody.

The accused person was remanded in custody to the 11th of June 2024.
