The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 48 year old vendor for reportedly rap*ng his co-workers child in Harare at Greenwood Park on June 17, last week.
According to a report made to the police, the vendor allegedly proposed love to the victim sometime last year, and his advances were turned down. On Monday last week, the vendor reportedly approached the minor from behind at Greenwood Park when she was coming back from school, around 3pm.
It is reported the sex starved man grabbed the victim, closed her mouth, and dragged her into nearby shrubs where he allegedly removed her underwear and rap*d her once before disappearing in broad daylight.
After the bizarre incident, the victim narrated the abuse to her mother, and they made a report to the police leading to the vendor’s arrest.
ZRP Harare Provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest and narrated the whole story.
He said, “The accused person works with the complainant’s mother. Both are vendors at in Harare. Sometime in 2023, the accused person proposed love to the complainant and was turned down. On 17 June 2024, around 1530 hours, the complainant was coming back from Girls High School, where she is doing form four. She passed through the Greenwood Park and was approached by the accused person from behind.
“The accused person grabbed the complainant and closed her mouth with his left hand, and dragged her into the nearby shrubs. He then forcibly removed her pant and raped her once and went away. The complainant went home and informed her mother, and reported the matter to the police. Scene was attended, and the accused was arrested at his vending place.”
