The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested an Epworth man for allegedly rap*ng a 15 year old girl countless times in Goromonzi.
According to a report made to the police, the 65 year old man went to the victim’s home to do some part time jobs last year when he proposed love to the minor, and his advances were accepted.
The man then allegedly invited the minor to his place on an unknown date, and fondled her breasts and buttocks, promising to give her money and some foodstuffs. From that day onward, the man allegedly repeated the same abuse and further had sexual intercourse with the minor several times without protection.
In July last month, the victim was reportedly coming from school when she met the 65 year old in a bushy area of the road. It is alleged that the man grabbed the victim and dragged her on the nearby bush where he removed her pants, and rap*ed her.
After the shameful act, the man gave the minor some money and urged her not to tell anyone.
The matter came to light on the 15th of July 2024, when a teacher of the minor called her parents, informing them about changes in their daughter’s lifestyle, allegedly revealing that she was coming to school with money and foodstuffs, something that wasn’t part of her world before.
The mother of the victim then sat her down and interrogated her about her source of money, and the minor opened up and revealed how she had been abused since 2023 in exchange for money and foodstuffs, leading to the elderly man’s arrest.
ZRP Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest and narrated the whole story.
He said, “The accused person and the complainant are neighbors, and they are not related. On an unknown date, but sometimes in 2023, the complainant went to the accused’s residence to do some part time jobs. The accused person proposed love to the complainant, and she accepted. On an unknown date, the accused person then called the complainant to his place of residence, and he fondled the complainant’s breast and buttocks, and the accused person promised to give her money and food staff.
“As from that day, the accused person continued to give the complainant some food staff and cash. The accused person then kept on fondling the complainant’s breast on different occasions. The accused person went on to have unprotected sexual intercourse with the complainant several times without her consent, and the complainant did not tell anyone about the case.
“Sometimes on an unknown date, but in July 2024, the complainant was walking along a path in a bushy area from school and met with the accused person. The accused person tightly grabbed the complainant around the waist, pulled her away from the road and knocked her down. He removed his trousers and also removed the complainant’s pant, and inserted his penis into the complainant’s vagina without her consent. The accused person then gave the complainant person some money.
“The matter came to light on the 15 July 2024, when the complainant’s mother was called by a teacher at the school where the complainant is a student. She was told the complainant had cash and some food staff. Her mother inquired how she got cash and food staff. The complainant revealed that she was being sexually abused by the accused person, who in turn gives her money and the food stuff as payment each time they encounter.”
