A 49 year old man from Kariba was convicted and sentenced by a Kariba Magistrate on attempted murder charges.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the accused person followed the complainant, his ex-lover, to her place of residence and demanded that she pays him back the money he had given her the previous day.
The complainant handed over USD30 and insisted that she pays him back the remaining USD40 at a later date.
When the complaint noticed that the accused person was now angry she walked towards Nyamhunga Police Post for her safety.
The accused person followed her, grabbed her by the shoulders and stabbed her with a knife once on the back and once beneath her breasts.
After the incident he was immediately apprehended by the Police with the help of members of the public.
He was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment of which 6 months were suspended for 5 years. He will serve an effective 24 months in prison.
