A 17 year old girl from Mareke Village in Chishawasha was reportedly rap*d by an unknown man last week Friday after attending a local funeral in the company of two female adults.
According to a report made to the police, the victim attended a local funeral in Chishawasha at 12am last week with two women, who later offered her a drink. It is reported that after 20 minutes, the victim informed the duo she was about to go home, and they joined her, claiming they were her neighbors.
As the girl was walking with the duo, she allegedly felt dizzy and fell unconsciously on the ground for 4 hours. It is reported that when she woke up sleeping on the side of the road, she felt unwell and suspected she had been sexually abused, leading her to report the awkward incident to her mother.
On Saturday the following day, the victim reportedly went for medical examinations at Parirenyatwa Hospital and discovered she had been rap*d, prompting her to report the matter to the police.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress.
“The accused and the complainant are not related. On 23 August 2024, at around 0000 hours, the complainant attended a funeral together with two unknown female adults. While at the funeral, the two unknown female adults offered the complainant a drink, which she accepted. At around 0020 hours, the complainant decided to go home and rest.
“She was joined by the two female adults she had come with, who claimed to live near the complainant’s place of residence. As the complainant was walking home in the company of the two women, she felt dizzy and became unconscious. The complainant later regained consciousness at around 0300 hours and discovered that she was sleeping on the roadside, feeling unwell. The complainant suspected that she may have been raped.
“The complainant went home and told her mother, about what happened. On 24 August 2024, the complainant went to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Adult Rape Clinic for a medical examination. After the examination, the complainant was informed that she had been sexually assaulted. A report was made at ZRP Mabvuku. The police attended the scene, but no arrests were made. Investigations are in progress,” said Chakanza.
