A 28 year old uncle from Waterfalls suburb allegedly rap*d his 9 year old niece for a year, when he stayed with the victim’s parents in the same house during the entire year of 2017, before relocating to Mudzi.
According to a report made to the police on the day in question, the uncle, who was 20 years old, was reportedly sleeping with his niece in the same bedroom when he woke up, closed the victim’s mouth and allegedly rap*d her once without protection.
It is reported that after the bizarre incident, the uncle promised to buy chips for the victim and told her not to divulge any information about the abuse to anyone. The abuse reportedly continued for a year before the victim’s uncle relocated to Mudzi.
On August 21, this year, the father of the victim saw flirty chat messages between his daughter and the “fugitive” uncle, which clearly revealed the two had engaged in sexual activity before confronting his daughter for answers, but she denied.
The father then took his daughter for medical examinations, and the results revealed his daughter had engaged in sexual activities countless times, and the victim disclosed about the abuse.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza narrated the whole story and said investigations are underway.
“The accused person is complainant’s uncle. Sometime in 2017, the complainant, who was 9 years old at that time, was sleeping in the same room with the accused person. During the night, the accused person woke up and covered the complainant’s mouth with a cloth.
“The accused person then undressed the complainant and raped her once without protection. After the act, the accused told the complainant not to reveal the matter to anyone, and promised to buy her chips. The abuse continued throughout 2017 before the accused relocated to Mudzi. The matter came to light on 21 August 2024, when the complainant’s father saw chat messages on the complainant’s cellphone.
“The father became suspicious, and he confronted the complainant to find out if she had engaged in any sexual activity. The complainant initially denied it, but the father took her to Edith MSF Clinic in Mbare for medical examination. The medical results indicated the complainant had engaged in sexual activities. The complainant then disclosed that she was raped by the accused multiple times. A report was made at ZRP Southlea Park but the accused person is still at large. Investigations are in progress,” said Chakanza.
