A Marange man has been slapped with a community service sentence for unlwaful entry and theft.
Solomon Mathew Zvapangana (23), was hauled the Mutare Magistrates’ Court after he broke into Holy Ghost College premises in Marange and stole students’ clothes.
According to a report by the National Prosecuting Auhtority of Zimbabwe, Zvapangana went to the Holy Ghost College during the night and broke through the fence to gain entry into the property.
Once inside, the daring thief went to the boys dormitory and broke the window to gain entry. He then proceeded to steal 58 male pants, 6 sweaters, 2 boxer shorts, 5 woolen hats, 4 satchels, 4 bags, 15 bedcovers and 4 irons before disappearing into the night.
Upon discovering the crime, Holy Ghost College’s headmaster, Mr Justice Mafi, filed a police report and investigations were instituted, leading to Zvapangana’s arrest.
The accused person was found in possession of the stolen property which was stashed inside his mother’s bedroom. All the stolen goods were recovered.
The total value of the goods was USD1 963.
Zvapangana was sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment and 8 months were suspended for 5 years. A further 12 months were suspended on condition that he performs 420 hours of community service.
