The Leader of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in Parliament, Hon Lynette Karenyi Kore on Wednesday implored the Government to promulgate a law that will facilitate tuition fees payment for persons with disabilities, when the bill is gazetted into law.

Addressing journalists after a parliamentary engagement with Deaf Zimbabwe Trust (DZT) and the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), Kore commended the church’s campaigns, stressing that, “it is good because it paves the way for parliamentarians to familiarize with the bill”.

Karenyi Kore, who is the Member of Parliament for the Chikanga constituency, said “the Government must provide grands and tuition fees for persons with disabilities, to cushion those who look after them.”

She also urged the Government to work with the private sector to alleviate the challenges faced by persons with disabilities.

“In the Bill, there are proposals that we must have levies from the private sector, which companies will have remittances, like if you employ people with disabilities, you get income from the government,” she said.

Kore was appointed the leader of the opposition in parliament by CCC, replacing Amos Chibaya, who was recalled by disputed CCC interim Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu.

The decision to elevate Karenyi Kore came after the then CCC leader Nelson Chamisa resigned from the party. Kore was one of the MDC Alliance’s three vice presidents alongside Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti elected at the Gweru Congress in 2019, before the party rebranded to the Citizens Coalition for Change in January 2022.
