Beitbridge Woman In Court For Smuggling USD10K Drugs

A 27-year-old Beitbridge resident from the Dulibadzimu suburb was charged with both illegal drug dealing and violating the Medicines Control Act at her arraignment before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court.

The allegations date back to September 10, 2024. The accused person allegedly obtained cannabis in Messina, South Africa, and brought it into Zimbabwe illegally whilst hiding it under blankets and stuffed into sacks.

She allegedly made contact with the bus crew and let them know that she was planning to ship some supplies to Harare.

The bus conductor allowed her to load her package.

The drugs were found in the boot of the bus when Police sniffer dogs that night during a search. Hidden among the blankets, they found 53 dagga cobs.

They also recovered 50x100mls of Broncleer cough syrup concealed in one of the sacks valued at USD300. The conductor told the police officers that the sacks belonged to the accused person, leading to her arrest.

The dagga weighed 103.716kg with street value of USD10 371.

She was remanded in custody to the 1st of October 2024.
