Zimbabwean Court Sentences Chinese National Cai Yulong To 30 Years In Jail

Cai Yulong, a Chinese national who runs the Stone Steel Blue Mine in Zhombe, was charged with three counts of murder, attempted murder, and assault before the Gokwe High Court.

According to a report by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, on the 26 of May 2024 while working underground to build a barricade at the intersection of their mine and the accused’s, the deceased and his coworkers from Black Hand 10 Mine were on duty.

The accused approached and opened fire on them while they were working. After they left the area in the direction of the exit, the accused followed them.

The accused person shot the now deceased on the thigh and he died as a result of the gunshot wound. He also shot one of the deceased’s workmates on the knee and thigh before proceeding to assault the other on the head using his fists.

A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.

He was convicted and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for murder. He was sentenced to a further 5 years imprisonment for attempted murder.

Both sentences will run concurrently. He was also sentenced to a fine of USD100 for assault or 1 month imprisonment.
