Robbers Attack A Grocery Store And Escape With USD$8,700 Cash

Over the weekend, an armed gang allegedly got way with USD $8,705 in cash from a grocery store in Chitungwiza in broad daylight.

Before looting cash registers, the attackers allegedly ordered shop employees to lie down and fired warning shots into the air, in scenes straight out of a movie.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which occurred Saturday afternoon.

“Police in Harare are appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of a case of robbery which occurred at a grocery shop at Tilcor Industry, Chitungwiza on October 26, 2024 at around 1330 hours.

“Three unknown suspects who were armed with an unidentified pistol stole US$8 705 cash from two till drawers in the shop after firing one shot into the roof and ordering shop workers and customers to lie down,” said Nyathi.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a getaway Honda Fit vehicle.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing to anyone who might have information regarding the matter to report at any nearest police station.
