The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Saturday arrested a 26 year old man from Mabvuku for allegedly raping a drunk woman outside Hlanga Bar at Eastview shopping center.
According to a report made to the police, the alleged victim was drinking beer with her 24 year old boyfriend, but when she got drunk, she reportedly went outside the bar to relieve herself through vomiting but never returned.
Moments later, her boyfriend became suspicious, and together with other patrons, went outside the bar where they encountered the victim having sexual intercourse with an unknown man, but she was unconscious.
The boyfriend, together with the patrons, allegedly manhandled the unidentified man, apprehended him and took him to a nearby police base, buying time for the victim to gain consciousness.
On the following day the 21 year old woman gained consciousness, and reported the sexual abuse to the police, which led to the continuous detention of the suspect. She was also referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for medical examination.
ZRP Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest, and said investigations are underway.
He said, “complainant, and the accused person are not related”. On 09 November 2024, around 2230 hours, the complainant was drinking beer together with her boyfriend, aged 24 years. The complainant who was drunk told her boyfriend that she was going outside the bar to vomit and did not return.
“Her boyfriend and other patrons followed the complainant and found the accused person having s*xual intercourse with her, but she was unconscious. The boyfriend and other patrons apprehended the accused person and handed him over to ZRP Gazebo Base, where he was kept in holding cells waiting for the complainant to gain consciousness. On 10 November 2024, around 0800 hours, the complainant woke up and made a report at ZRP Gazebo Base. Scene was attended, and the accused person was detained at ZRP Mabvuku.”
