Robbers Break Into House, Stole USD2000

A woman from Epworth was left stranded Sunday morning, when suspected robbers broke into her house and stole gadgets, property, groceries and money all totaling USD2000 at 2am.

According to a report made to the police, the victim as well as her house help Trishal Mandonye and niece were sleeping when they were woken up by a bang on the door.

The victim immediately woke up to go and investigate the source of the sound. It was then that the suspects gained entry into the house and ordered her to lie on the ground facing downwards.

One of the suspects reportedly tore the woman’s sheets and tied her hands. The allegedly also tied the hands of her niece and house help, threatening to harm them if they looked at their faces.

The suspects allegedly ransacked the house and took 5 Samsung cellphones, 2 Gtel cellphones, an itel cellphone, a 9kg gas cylinder, groceries and USD275 in case, before disappearing in the night.

Moments later, the house help, named Trishal Mandonye, managed to untie herself and others. The matter was reported to the police.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

He said, “on 10 November 2024, around 0200 hours, the complainant was asleep in her room. She heard a bang on her door and woke up to check what was happening. The accused persons forced the complainant door and gained entry into the house. When the complainant tried to figure out what was going on, one of the accused persons then ordered her to lie on the ground facing downwards.

“One of the accused tore the complainant’s bed sheets and tied her arms together, with Trishal Mandonye aged 20 years who is her maid, and Nikkita Chako aged 10 years who is the complainant’s niece. The accused persons threatened the complainant with unspecified action if she looked at their faces. The accused persons searched the house and took 5 Samsung cellphones, 2 Gtel cellphones, itel cellphone, 9kgs gas cylinder, groceries and cash $275-00.

“The accused persons left the complainants’ house and went away. Trishal Mandonye managed to untie herself. and she also untied others. A report was made at ZRP Epworth. Scene was attended, and no arrest was made.  The complainant sustained bruised and painful arms as a result of the tight sheets tied on her arms. Total value stolen is US$2000-00, and nothing was recovered.”
