Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has congratulated the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, after she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management by Midlands State University (MSU) last Thursday in Gweru.
The First Lady was among 6 479 graduates awarded degrees at the largest university in Zimbabwe in terms of student numbers.
Her doctorate is part of the various accolades she accumulated after becoming the country’s First Lady, following her husband’s rise to the Presidency through a military coup in November 2017.
In a statement, Chiwenga heaped praise on Mnangagwa’s achievement, insisting that her doctorate will motivate young girls and women to reach higher stages in their educational journey.
“Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa has been an exemplary role model, especially to the girl child, demonstrating that anyone can achieve goals, regardless of the obstacles they may face. Her achievement serves as a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to pursue higher education, and that knowledge is a lifelong endeavor,” he said.
In 2008, the First Lady graduated with a Masters in Business Administration Degree from the Midlands State University in Zimbabwe.
Currently, she holds various honorary doctorates, including Doctor of Philosophy in Law Honorary Degree (UZ), an honorary doctorate degree in development studies with the Zimbabwe Open University and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (Honoris Causa) degree from the GD Goenka University in Gurugram Haryana, India, in recognition of her philanthropic work.
