The Israeli Defense forces on Tuesday killed 85 civil defense personnel in northern Gaza, as they intensified the ongoing military action and attempt to prevent Hamas from regrouping.
According to the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Tamer Almassri, the Israeli military action in northern Gaza killed 85 civil defense personnel, injuring 301, whilst detaining another 20 and destroying civilian infrastructure.
In a statement, the diplomat bemoaned the Israeli military action, insisting it has “paralyzed the ability of civil defense crews to do their duties”.
“Israeli occupation forces are obstructing emergency services and civil defense crews to reach many casualties and dead bodies trapped under the rubble or scattered on roads across the war torn enclave,” he said.
As stated by Dr. Almassri, the Israeli bombardment since the Hamas October 7 attacks has claimed the lives of 43 922 Palestinians, with over 12 000 still under the rubble, and an additional 103 898 sustaining injuries. He added that most of those affected are women and children.
“Palestine underscores that imposing severe international sanctions on the occupying state, along with targeting its leaders, settlement advocates, and extremist factions, is essential to halt Israel’s relentless assault on Palestinian rights and secure a future grounded in justice and accountability,” said Dr. Almassri in a statement.
Since October 5 this month, Israel has launched a large ground operation in Northern Gaza and forcibly displaced its citizens. The Palestines accuse Israel of seeking to occupy the enclave by forcibly displacing its citizens.
Meanwhile, the US Wednesday vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional cease fire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, where fighting has raged for more than 13 months and a humanitarian crisis is intensifying.
Last week, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant targeted at the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but President Joe Biden called the ICC warrant “outrageous”.
The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for sacked Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, and a Hamas commander, Mohammed Deif, who Israel says was killed in July.
