The ambassador of Palestine to Zimbabwe, Tamer Almassri Friday, welcomed the recent International Criminal Court (ICC) action of issuing an arrest warrant targeted at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his sacked defense minister Yoav Gallant, describing the act as historical.

Addressing journalists on the sidelines of the international day of solidarity with the Palestinian people in Harare, Almassri said they are happy with the ICC decision, but they don’t agree with other countries who are supporting the Israeli military action in northern Gaza.

He said, “the ICC declaration issued last week is historical, because it’s the first time the international court takes a decision against the Israeli “criminals”. Unfortunately, we see some powers try to say we are against the ICC declaration.”

According to Dr. Almassri, Israeli military action has killed 44 000 Palestinians and displaced 35 hospitals, with just two hospitals functioning. Almassri also claimed the Israeli military has kidnapped the bodies of Palestinians, and they trade with their body parts and organs.

The diplomat said 186 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the Israeli forces started its military action in Gaza. He further appreciated the support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other Zanu Pf heavy weights in these difficult times facing the Gaza enclave.

“I want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his leadership for their support on Palestine. I want to thank all our comrades in Zanu PF, civil societies and the churches for their continued support on the state of Palestine,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi, who also attended the international day of solidarity with Palestine, said the ruling party and the people of Zimbabwe were to assist Palestine until it is free from the Israeli “genocide”.

He said, “We will play our part to ensure that the cries of the children of Palestine are heard, and also ask the world to say that this conflict has gone on for two, it’s devastating. It has destroyed everything about Palestine. It has therefore ceased to be an issue that is purely for Palestinians, but an issue that requires the whole world to bring its attention and ensure that a long lasting solution is found.”

Israeli military action has continued in Gaza despite the ICC arrest warrant on Israeli prime minister Netanyahu, and, according to local health authorities, Israeli airstrikes killed at least 200 people in northern Gaza Saturday.

These developments underscore the worsening humanitarian situation in the enclave, where tens of thousands of people are killed by the Israeli military, and chronic hunger threatens the remaining civilian population.
