Rapist Father Jailed 20 Years

A 42 year old man from Chief Hikwa, Dombodema, Plumtree was arraigned before the Plumtree Magistrates’ Court on rape charges.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe claims that the complainant, who was 13 at the time of the incident, is the offender’s biological daughter. The complainant, the accused, and his wife shared a room as they slept in 2013.

The accused once exploited his wife’s absence by getting out of his bed, going to the complainant’s bedding, and raping her. He warned the complainant that she would lose a source of income if she reported him.

He therefore, repeatedly raped her and she fell pregnant. The accused person continued to rape the accused person during her pregnancy. The complainant fled from home after giving birth in 2016 and went to Botswana.

She returned home in December 2024 with her 8 year old daughter. Fearing that her daughter might end up being abused also, the complainant made a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused person.

He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
