Palestine Condemns Israel’s Actions In Westbank

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe on Wednesday castigated the Israeli Military’s actions in the West Bank, claiming Israel had erected 898 checkpoints and newly installed 16 iron gates, infringing upon the Palestinians’ freedom of movement.

Dr. Almassri, who lost his mother due to the ongoing military conflict, said the Israeli actions in the West Bank disturb the international community’s efforts to hold Israel accountable for its war crimes since October 7.

“This escalation of violence is a deliberate attempt by Israel to distract the international community from its recent crimes in Gaza and to consolidate its illegal occupation of Palestinian territories. The installation of new iron gates across the West Bank constitutes a further act of collective punishment and a blatant attempt to fragment Palestinian society and impose a full system of apartheid,” said Almassri in a statement.

According to the diplomat, Israeli forces also launched a deadly attack in Jenin and its refugee camps using heavy military force, drones, and airstrikes, which claimed the lives of 10 Palestinians, injured 40, and caused the destruction of roads surrounding Ibn Sina Hospital.

Responding to the attacks, Almassri urged the global community to intervene and called for the international bloc to impose immediate and effective sanctions on Israel to halt its military actions in Palestine.

He said, “The international community must not remain silent in the face of these ongoing Israeli crimes. The State of Palestine calls upon the international community to unequivocally condemn Israel’s aggression against the Palestinian people, hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law and its crimes against humanity, and implement immediate and effective sanctions on Israel to deter further aggression.”

Despite a fragile ceasefire with Hamas in the Gaza Strip last week, Israel launched a major military operation in the occupied West Bank, suspecting that Jewish settlers are causing unrest in two Palestinian towns.

Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war, and the Palestinians want all three territories for their future state.
