MDC activist, Priston Mawaya, who was brutally assaulted and injured in political violence in Glen View has undergone a successful head operation and is reported to be out of danger.
Mawaya, who was part of MDC leader Douglas Mwonzora’s entourage to Glen View, where the opposition leader had gone to attend the funeral of the late Grademore Hakata, a former CCC member of parliament who passed away last week.
Upon arrival at the Hakata homestead, the MDC leader was allegedly attacked by “blue movement” youths who were also attending the funeral.
The blue movement is a rumored political outfit led by former CCC leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa, who was also at the funeral wake when the violence allegedly took place.
Ever since the split of the MDC, which saw the emergence of the CCC led by Chamisa, there is no love lost between the two opposition outfits.
Chamisa has since left the CCC, and will soon launch the “blue movement” into a fully fledged political party.
Blue movement activists loyal to Chamisa still maintain a strong presence within the CCC, aligned with the Jameson Timba faction of the opposition party.
The CCC is currently divided into three factions. One of the factions is led by Professor Welshman Ncube, another is led by Senator Jameson Timba whilst the third is loyal to Self proclaimed Secretary General, Senator Sengezo Tshabangu.
The opposition on opposition political violence was condemned by a cross section of Zimbabweans.
Below is a press statement by the MDC, on the condition of Mawaya….
