Following concerns about his recent acquittal for enabling the awarding of a US$9 million streetlights tender to a company owned by businessmen Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe, who are connected to Zanu PF, suspended town clerk Hosiah Chisango is now facing new corruption charges.
Denford Zhungu, Tawanda Mutenhabundo, and Arkims Mandaza were also charged along with Chisango.
The High Court indicted only one member of the tender evaluation team, Jabulani Mukomazi, for trial. His trial is set to begin on March 10, 2025. The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) stated on Monday that Chisango had a case to answer.
“ZACC respects the position taken by the National Prosecuting Authority and acknowledges that it is the mandate of the prosecuting authority to institute and manage criminal prosecutions in Zimbabwe.
“The Commission, however, maintains that the accused persons are criminally liable for the fraudulent awarding of the tender and should defend their actions in court,” ZACC said in a statement.
