The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested Misheck Chimutandiro, who allegedly swindled Edson Kamuchenyu out of USD 6,000 in a botched stand deal in August last year.
According to a report made to the police, Kamuchenyu met Chimutandiro last year. Chimutandiro was reportedly advertising a stand worth USD 6,000 at Gazebo Shops, and the two agreed to meet at Tangoville to complete the payment process.
A few days later, Kamuchenyu and Chimutandiro met again, and Kamuchenyu paid USD 6,000 in cash. An affidavit was also allegedly signed as an agreement of sale between the two, and Kamuchenyu was allocated the controversial stand.
During the stand preparation phase, a woman named Familiar Mahava approached Kamuchenyu, claiming to be the owner of the stand. Kamuchenyu then reached out to Chimutandiro to claim back his money, but he was not refunded. Realizing he had been swindled, Kamuchenyu reported the incident to the police, and Chimutandiro was arrested.
ZRP Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are underway.
“On 26 August 2024, the complainant met the accused person at Gazebo Shops, where the accused was advertising a certain stand, claiming it was worth USD 6,000. The complainant and the accused agreed to meet on a certain day at Tongoville, and an affidavit was completed stating that the two had an agreement of sale.
“The complainant then paid USD 6,000 in cash and was allocated the stand. While the complainant was in the process of preparing the stand, a woman named Familiar Mahava approached him, claiming to be the owner of the stand. The complainant then approached the accused demanding his money back. When the accused failed to return the money, a report was made at ZRP Mabvuku, and the accused was arrested,” said Inspector Chakanza.
