Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

A brazen burglary incident occurred at Avenues Flats in Harare, where a suspected thief made off with a staggering USD 120,000. The incident was discovered by Shepherd Nyamandi, an employee at the premises, the following day.

According to a report made to the police, Nyamandi allegedly left the premises on February 8 at around 20:00 hours after ensuring that all windows and doors were closed and locked. However, when he returned the next morning, he noticed that the small kitchen window and burglar bars had been tampered with, raising his suspicions.

Nyamandi immediately contacted Last Baya, a security guard from Wantsford Town House Association, a private security company, to accompany him in conducting a thorough check of the premises. Upon entering the house, they discovered that an unknown person had used an object to break the bedroom door and gain entry into the main house.

Nyamandi was advised to check for the USD 120,000 that was kept in the wardrobe by his employer, but unfortunately, he found the wardrobe empty. They then made a report to the police.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

“On 8 February 2025, the informant, who is employed at the place of occurrence, left the premises at around 20:00 hours after closing windows and locking doors. On 10 February 2025 at around 08:00 hours, the informant returned to the premises and noticed that the small kitchen window and burglar bars had been tampered with, raising his suspicions.

“He called the security guard, Last Baya of Wantsford Town House Association, a private security company, to accompany him in conducting thorough checks around flat number 5. The duo entered the house and noticed that an unknown person had used an object to break the bedroom door and gain entry into the main house.

“The informant was advised to check for the USD 120,000 that was kept in the wardrobe by his employer, and he found that there was nothing inside the wardrobe. A report was made at ZRP Harare Central. The scene was attended, but no arrests or recoveries have been made,” said Inspector Chakanza.
