Palestinian Embassy in Zimbabwe Marks Nakba Day with Call for Justice

The Embassy of the State of Palestine commemorated Nakba Day in Harare on May 15, marking the displacement and suffering of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.

This day is observed a day after Israel’s Independence Day, highlighting the differing narratives surrounding the event.

The commemoration in Harare drew multitudes of peace-loving Zimbabweans from various groups, including churches, schools, women’s organizations, journalists, government officials, and others standing in solidarity with Palestine.

“The international community must not be silent about Israel’s occupation forces’ atrocities against the people of Palestine,” said Ambassador Dr. Tamer Almasri.

Nakba Day serves as an opportunity for Palestinians to assert their right of return to ancestral homes and raise awareness about their ongoing struggle for recognition and justice.

However, the Israeli government has taken steps to suppress Nakba commemorations, viewing them as a challenge to Israel’s narrative.
