Mzonzora In Major Court Victory.

MDC Leader Douglas Mwonzora and party Secretary General, Dr Tapiwa Mashakada have been Acquitted from Fraud Charges.

The opposition stalwarts were dragged to court by Denmark Training services, represented by Mr Denis Shoko.

The lawsuit arose after Denmark Training Services had leased a section of Freedom Square(also known as Robert Mugabe square) from the MDC, but then occupied a section that belongs to Croco Motors and destroyed Croco Motors infrastructure in the process.

Denmark was then ejected from the property by Croco Motors and then went to claim a refund from the MDC.

The MDC declined to refund Denmark, leading to it filing a lawsuit for fraud against the opposition party’s Leader Douglas Mwonzora and Secretary General Dr Tapiwa Mashakada.

The opposition party hailed the Court’s decision to acquit its officials.

This acquittal comes on a backdrop of multiple court cases involving the party, chief among them the ongoing legal battle with Engineer Elias Mudzuri that is currently before the Supreme Court.

The MDC has long maintained that these charges are politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing its reputation.

In a statement released after Mzonzora and Mashakada’s acquittal, the party said the following.

“We welcome the decision by the Magistrate Court to acquit our President, Senator Douglas Togara Mwonzora, and Secretary General Dr. Tapiwa Mashakada, on baseless fraud charges,” the MDC stated. “This outcome reaffirms our long-held position that the charges were not only unfounded but also politically motivated attempts to tarnish the integrity and leadership of our movement.

“The party remains committed to constitutionalism, justice, and the rule of law, stating, “The MDC stands firm in its commitment to constitutionalism, justice and the rule of law.” This acquittal is seen as a victory for truth, due process, and principled leadership.

“The fight for democracy and freedom is far from over, but this outcome is a victory for truth, due process and the resilience of principled leadership.”

“The MDC’s determination to push forward despite these challenges underscores its resolve to advocate for democracy and justice in the face of adversity.”
