A Harare man has been slapped with a 15 year jail sentence after being convicted of raping his ex-wife.
He was also handed an additional two-month sentence for a conviction of physically assaulting their daughter during the incident.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the offence occurred on the night of 25 June 2025 at the woman’s home in Glaudina Phase 2, Harare, where the man had gone under the pretext of resolving a family matter.
The situation took a violent turn when he allegedly demanded an apology from his ex-wife for an undisclosed matter, but she refused.
Irked by her refusal, he locked the bedroom door, became aggressive, and raped her.
Before committing the offence, he also assaulted their daughter and forced her out of the room.
The victim reported the attack the following morning after confiding in a relative, resulting in the man’s arrest and subsequent prosecution at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
In a statement, the NPA stressed that no form of relationship justifies control or ownership over another person’s body.
“No form of relationship grants anyone ownership or control overanother’s body. “Consent must be respected at all times.
“The NPA urges all victims to report abuse, the law is here to protectyou,” read the statement.
