Police Officer & Council Worker Die In Boat Accident At Bubi Lupane Dam

Two people, a police officer and a Kusile Rural District Council employee, drowned on Sunday after their boat capsized on Bubi Lupane Dam in Lupane, Matabeleland North Province.

The deceased have been named as Joseph Masvora (24), a police officer, and Brian Thulani Ngwenya (26), who was employed by the local council.

According to Lupane District Development Coordinator Ennety Sithole, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon during rough weather conditions.

Ngwenya’s body was later found washed up along the shoreline, while efforts to recover Masvora’s body were still underway as of Tuesday.

Preliminary reports indicate the small vessel may have been overturned by strong waves, although investigations are still in progress. Unstable weather has been cited as a likely factor.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Sub-Aqua Unit was expected to spearhead the underwater search operation.

Authorities have since warned the public to be cautious when using water vessels, especially during inclement weather.
