The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is taking to the skies in a bold move aimed at modernising policing by embracing cutting-edge technologies.
27 police officers received drone pilot certificates on Wednesday at the ZRP Sports Club, arming them with aerial surveillance skills to boost crime-fighting and traffic enforcement efforts.
“As the ZRP continues to embrace technology in policing, 27 police officers graduated with drone pilot certificates this afternoon,” the force said in a statement.
This initiative is part of the Commissioner–General’s broader vision to transform the force through digital innovation, including the recently launched Electronic Traffic Management System (ETMS)—a tech-driven platform aimed at curbing corruption and enhancing road safety.
The ETMS uses high-tech tools such as surveillance cameras, speed sensors, and automatic number plate recognition to monitor violations in real time and issue instant fines. This goes a long way in preventing back door dealings & bribery.
Each offence is automatically entered into a central database, helping authorities build detailed profiles of serial offenders.
To ensure transparency, lists of traffic violators are now published online, with clear steps on how to challenge charges or settle fines.
With drones now part of its arsenal, the ZRP is taking crime and traffic control to new heights, playing big brother by literally watching over Zimbabwe from above.
