CHICAGO — Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says his players are already “stronger and faster” than last season, but cautioned against reading too much into preseason results following a convincing 4–1 victory over Bournemouth at Soldier Field on Wednesday.
The win marked United’s second consecutive triumph on their summer tour, showcasing improved intensity and cohesion under Amorim’s leadership. However, the Portuguese coach emphasized that preseason form is no guarantee of success once the Premier League campaign begins.
Amorim: “We Are Improving, But It’s Still Preseason”
“We are improving,” Amorim said. “But again, it’s a preseason game. The pressure is going to be so much different during the season.”
Amorim credited the team’s enhanced performance to growing chemistry both on and off the pitch. He noted that players are connecting more effectively, which has translated into sharper movement and higher intensity.
“I think they are playing better also because they are connecting better with each other. Not just on the pitch, but off the pitch. I think they are stronger, they are faster. You can see the intensity is completely different compared to last season.”
Data-Driven Progress
Amorim also highlighted internal performance metrics that show a marked improvement in physical output and match tempo.
“I can see the data from the minutes are completely different. It’s important for them to understand that the same players can play a different game.”
