Zec Admits Ghost Registration Exists

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission {ZEC} has admitted how they sometimes registers unspecified numbers than expected on each household.

The response comes after social media claims on ZEC voters roll, which recently show figures of 30 to 40 people who were registered on household level, especially in high density suburbs like Glenview.

Currently, observers on social media are crying foul towards ZEC registration figures in high density suburbs adding that highly populated suburbs do not have the capacity to accommodate such large numbers of people per household.

Addressing journalists in Harare this afternoon, ZEC acting CEO Mrs Jane Chigidji admitted there are households where they register multiple people per household.

She added that they can’t deny people’s registration because it’s their right whilst urging the media to report those issues if they come across them.

“There are houses which have people who register in numbers on each household, but as ZEC we register everyone, we can even register people who live on the streets as long as they provide proof of residence.

“We cant deny people to register.

“If there are issues where people register in large numbers at one household the media should report it,” she said.

Chijidji also urged political players in Zimbabwe to accept elections outcomes and believe on the “accountability” and “transparency” of ZEC on elections results.

In the 2018 elections, MDC Alliance then led by now CCC leader Nelson Chamisa disputed his loss to president Mnangagwa, insisting ZEC had rigged.

They lost the case at the constitutional court against Zanu PF, resulting to Mnangagwa assuming the presidential post in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe will conduct by-elections on March 26.
