Armed Robber Killed At Shamva Gold Mine

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a case in which a security guard got into a gun fight with armed robbers that invaded Shamva Gold Mine last night resulting to one robber shot dead.

In a statement, the ZRP said the body that is suspected to belong to one of the robbers was found about 1.5km away from the scene with a sack of stolen gold.

“The ZRP is investigating an armed robbery incident at Forbes 38 Gold Mine, Shamva on 28/02/22 at about 0200 hours and the discovery of a body of a male adult near the mine.

“About 20 unknown suspects armed with unidentified rifles stormed the mine and exchanged gunfire with a security guard. The guard later ran away from the mine and alerted some mine workers before they retreated to a nearby mountain.

“A body of a male adult with a gunshot wound on the back was discovered about 1.5km away from the scene with a sack of stolen gold ore near the body.” Read the statement.

Robbery in the country has become a worrying concern as the police in Harare are also investigating an armed robbery incident which occurred in Mabelreign yesterday at about 1630 hours, where a complainant (43) parked a silver Honda Fit vehicle AFN 4274 outside the gate before being attacked by two unknown suspects wielding an unidentified pistol.

The suspects dragged the complainant out of vehicle before taking control and driving away.

The police is appealing to anyone with information which may lead to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of the suspects to contact any nearest Police Station.
