Fresh Hope For Zim As New Political Party, ZMCPD Calls For Unity

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

A new political party Zimbabwe Coalition for Peace and Development (ZCPD) has vowed to end the polarization of politics in Zimbabwe insisting only unity will bring economic prosperity.

The party said the current economic quagmire in the country need citizens to join hands and work together regardless of their political affiliations.

The newly formed party is an alliance of six political parties which include Coalition of Democrats (CODE) People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rebuilding Zimbabwe Party (RZP) United Democracy Movement (UDM) United Democratic People’s Party (UDPP), and Straight Black Pride Zimbabwe Partnership (SBPZP).

Addressing journalists in Harare on Thursday ZCPD president Trust Chikohora said as POLAD members they have contributed a lot to sustain the sinking Zimbabwean economy.

“I myself as the chairman of the economic committee of POLAD we have done a lot of work in that regard. There were serious issues affecting this economy, the economy was collapsing and we did what we call the POLAD economic summit and a number of issues that emanated from the summit helped to salvage the situation. We also came up with policies that government implemented like the gold coins, it was our idea,” he said.

Asked if he had engaged other opposition parties like MDC T and CCC, Chikohora bragged insisting MDC is already dead but CCC was still alive.

He added that it was useless to engage CCC because ZPCD have beliefs which differ from that of the main opposition.

He said, “You asked me that have you engaged the CCC or MDC, okay one of those is dead. One of them is alive but clearly we don’t share the same principles on certain fundamental issues such as sanctions which we take very serious with the patriotism that we have and which is one of the main things we believe Zimbabwe is in this mess so if we don’t agree on a fundamental issue like that there is no way we can have an electoral pact.”

The formation of ZCPD comes at a time when Zimbabwe is waiting for president Emmerson Mnangagwa to announce election dates.

The crunch 2023 general elections are expected to be held in July or August this year.
