Failing to speak because of extensive heartache while holding a grey microphone with both hands, she didn’t manage to control the tears of sorrow which were rolling down uncontrollably on her cheeks.
The emotional ordeal which carries these disturbing scenes happened in Harare yesterday when Mrs. Ellen Sikhala the wife of the incarcerated Zengeza west MP was addressing delegates at the Zimbabwe Human Rights launch of model laws.
Speaking at the event, Ellen said her husband is not supposed to be in prison.
She insisted that life swiftly twisted when Job Sikhala was arrested.
Bowing her heard down on the podium as she continuously aired her story, Ellen confessed that it has been hard to put food on the table in the absence of her husband.
She said, “The prison is a place that he is not supposed to be but our hands are tied we just feel and hope that the lord will take us through because the experience is just bad for us even for the kids they are becoming impatient now sometimes it’s hard to explain things.”
“Since this arrest it have not been easy for me to take care of the family as the bread winner has been taken away from us,” said Sikhala’s wife.
When Ellen Sikhala said this she was coming from the court where his husband is facing a fresh charge of disorderly conduct.
Sikhala is jointly charged with former Chitungwiza mayor Lovemore Maiko and the allegations arise from an incident which took place a year ago.
The two briefly appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda who remanded them to May 9 for trial.
Job Sikhala, a 50 year old firebrand, politician has been held at Chikurubi Maximum Prison for over 8 months since his arrest in June last year.
He is accused of inciting violence and defeating the course of justice after the murder of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist slain Moreblessing Ali.
Meanwhile, if the main opposition lawmaker is found guilty on these charges he could be sentenced to 20 years in prison.
