Ruwa woman robbed and assaulted in broad daylight.
Make Viljoen was walking along Ruwa railway line when she was allegedly approached by one Munashe Nhema who is said have demand that she hand over her cellphone.
According to a report made to the police, Viljoen refused to surrender her cellphone to Nhema and that is when he allegedly became furious and started to assault her, hitting her several times with fists before forcibly taking away her Samsung cellphone.
Nhema is the alleged to have ran away from the scene.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident and said investigations were in progress.
“On 19 July 2023 at around 0735 hours, the complainant was walking along Ruwa railway line. She was approached by an unknown male adult who demanded her cellphone. She refused to surrender her cellphone to the accused.
“Accused became furious and started to assault complainant several times with fists. He forcibly took away the complainant’s Samsung cellphone and ran away. He was apprehended by passersby who were walking before going any further. Total value stolen is US$140-00 and all was recovered.
“Complainant made a report at ZRP Ruwa on 19 July 2023 at 0957 hours. Scene was attended by ZRP Ruwa. Accused person was arrested and detained. The cellphone was recovered and was kept to show evidence,” reads the docket.
