Kuwadzana Man Rapes Friend, Marries Her Then Gets Arrested For Rape.

A Harare man from Kuwadzana suburb has been arrested on allegations of raping an adult woman, who is reportedly also a friend.

According to the police report,  Tinashe Everly Shonga allegedly raped Tafadzwa Nobuhle Masawi without protection, before pleading for forgiveness and asking her to marry him.

The victim allegedly agreed the arrangement and stayed with the suspect as husband and wife before eventually reporting the case.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.

Shonga and Masawi had reportedly known each other for a while, as they live in the same neighbourhood.

Allegations are that on the 18th of July 2023, Shonga escorted Masawi home from Areno shops in Kuwadzana 1, where she reportedly runs a stall.

Its alleged that on their way home, the Shonga asked to be intimate with the complainant but she refused. Shonga allegedly then forcibly pushed complainant against a durawall and raped her once without protection. After raping her, he allegedly pleaded for forgiveness and requested that they stay together as husband and wife and she agreed.

The two reportedly started staying together as husband and wife, with Masawi eventually falling  pregnant.

“Complainant made a report at ZRP Kuwadzana on 4 September 2023. Scene was attended by ZRP Kuwadzana, accused person was arrested and detained under DB 1600/23. Complainant was escorted to Sally Mugabe Hospital for medical examination. Investigations are in progress. ZRP Kuwadzana IR 0944/23 refers,” reads the docket.
