A man from Chitungwiza was allegedly robbed and left naked after boarding a mshikashika pirate taxi recently.
The victim also lost US$387 and an Itel phone to the armed assailants.
According to a report made to the police, Tapiwa Wingiri boarded a black Honda Fit at the intersection of Robert Mugabe and Cameroon Street near Choppies Supermarket in Harare CBD, hoping to visit his in-laws in Waterfalls.
There were allegedly six male occupants in the vehicle, including the driver, and Wingiri sat in the front passenger seat.
As the vehicle proceeded along Northway Avenue Waterfalls, Harare, before nearing Dymo Shops, one of the occupants grabbed the complaint by the neck from behind and demanded all of the complainant’s goods. They searched the complainant and stole his cash ($387.00) and a small Itel cell phone.
After the alleged robbery the suspects also stripped Wingiri of all his clothes and left him naked before driving off.
The ZRP Harare Provincial Spokesperson confirmed the alleged crime and said investigations are in progress to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The accused persons stripped off the complainant’s clothes and left him naked.” They removed his maroon pants, white T-shirt, and white shoes and forced him out of their car once it had slowed down.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“On the 24th day of September 2023 at around 1930 hours, the complainant boarded an unknown black Honda fit, at corner Robert Mugabe and Cameroon Street near Choppies Supermarket, Harare CBD intending to go to Msasa Waterfalls, Harare to his in-laws. In the motor vehicle, were six (06) male occupants including the driver and the complainant occupied front passengers’ seat. The motor vehicle was driven to Waterfalls.
“As the driver drove along Northway Avenue Waterfalls, Harare and before approaching Dymo Shops, one of the occupants, grabbed the complainant by the neck from behind and the rest demanded the complainant’s all valuables. They searched the complainant and took his cash US$387-00 and a small Itel cell phone.
“The accused persons removed the complainant’s clothes and left him naked. They took his maroon trousers, white T-shirt, white shoes and they pushed him out of their motor vehicle after the motor vehicle had slowed down.
“The accused persons drove off towards Caledon Shops in Waterfalls. Total value stolen is US$417-00 and the complainant sustained no injuries. The complainant proceeded to ZRP Waterfalls and filed a report. Scene was attended, no arrests or recoveries were made. Investigations are underway on ZRP Waterfalls,” reads the docket.
