A Harare resident from Tynwald suburb recently lost US$3500 to street robbers who had offered to assist him in locating a Pharmacy at night.
According to a report made to the police, Rudairo Mapuranga was looking for a Pharmacy to purchase some medicine late at night in town when he encountered three middle-aged male adults at the intersection of J. Moyo and Chinhoyi Street who offered to assist him in locating any Pharmacy that might be open at the time.
Unbeknownst to him, these men were not good samaritan but wolves in sheep’s clothing as they eventually turned on him and robbed him. He was allegedly tripped to the ground by the suspects, with one of them pinned him to the ground whilst the other two searched his pockets, robbing him of US$3300 in cash as well as medicines, a melon jacket, a black cap, and a Samsung F13 cellphone before fleeing into the night.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Provincial (ZRP) Provincial spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress.
“On 14 November 2023 at around 2200HRS, the complainant was looking for a Pharmacy to buy some medicine. The complainant met three middle-aged male adults at intersection J. Moyo and Chinhoyi Street who offered to help him find any Pharmacy which might be open at that time.
“They all went to Diamond Pharmacy along Angwa Street. After purchasing the medicine, the three accused persons accompanied the complainant to Doves premises where he intended to board a taxi home. When they reached J. Moyo and Chinhoyi Street, the three accused persons grabbed the complainant and tripped him to the ground.
“One of the accused persons held him down while the other two searched the complainant’s pockets and took cash US$3300-00 from his trousers’ pocket, medicines, melon jacket, a black cap and a Cellphone Samsung F13.
“The accused persons then fled away from the scene. The total cash stolen is US$3496-00 and nothing was recovered. The matter was reported at Harare Central, said Chakanza.”
