Kwekwe Woman Caged For Smuggling Beer

Nyaradzo Agnes Makwembere (40) from Kwekwe was arrested and charged with smuggling recently.

The accused person was apprehended after police details received a tip off that she was Makwembere was in possession of contraband at a bus terminus at the border town.

Upon receiving the tipoff, the detectives swiftly responded to the information and intercepted the accused person at the Total Bus Terminus in Chirundu whilst she was on board a Trip Trans bus. A search was conducted and the accused person was found in possession of 25 cases of Castle Lite beer (24 x 300ml). 

The beer was found in the rear boot of the bus. The accused person failed to produce proof that she had paid duty for the goods and she was subsequently arrested.

Makwembere and the goods were taken to ZIMRA Chirundu, where the goods were seized. The total value of the seized goods was ZIG 1,392.91.

She was arraigned before a Karoi Magistrate and was fined USD300 or 3 months imprisonment. The goods recovered were forfeited to the state.
