Gweru Man Gets Life Sentence For Murder

A man from Gweru has been given a life sentence in prison for the murder of a 19-year-old man at the Mkoba 16 Business Center Vhudzijena Night Club.

Courage Hwami (35), who stabbed the now-deceased once on the left side of the chest and once on the back with a columbia knife, was brought before the Gweru High Court on two counts of murder and attempted murder.

According to a report by the National Prosecuting Auhtority of Zimbabwe, a miscommunication transpired between Hwami and the deceased, who was accompanied by the complainant (35), while they were at the club.

After the two brawled, the club’s security guard put them in restraints. After some time, Hwami charged in the direction of the now deceased who was with his brother in-law, the complainant.

He stabbed the now deceased and also chased the complainant and stabbed him once on the chest outside the bar before fleeing the scene. The deceased died on the spot as a result of the attack.

A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.

He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for count 1. He was sentenced to a further 10 years imprisonment for count count 2. The sentences will run concurrently.
