A Zimbabwean national was arrested by the Vadodara city police on Wednesday for reportedly beating a guy, transferring money from the complainant’s bank account against his will, and hitting an on-duty police constable who had stepped in to resolve the issue.
The accused, identified as Washington Takura Muzweir, a Zimbabwe national and student of a university in Waghodia, on Wednesday, allegedly assaulted the complainant Rameshkumar Nandlal Agarwal – a construction site manager looking after the property the accused had rented in India. The accused allegedly also forcefully transferred a sum of Rs 14,000 from his bank account into his own. When the police arrived, he also allegedly attacked the two policemen. He has been booked in two separate FIRs.
Police said Washington had attacked the complainant over transfer of the deposit money of the rented flat which the accused had been living in and looking to vacate. In his complaint, Agarwal has said the accused assaulted him when he tried to intervene in an argument between Washington and the mother of the flat owner over returning the deposit money. Agarwal said, “I told him the aged woman was alone at home, yet he barged in.
When I asked him to leave, he dragged me to the lift, stripped me to my undergarments and assaulted me continuously, while forcing me to transfer money through a payment app.”
Police said “He wanted his Rs 16,000 deposit back. The owner stalled as he wanted to follow the due process.” A second FIR has also been lodged against Washington by the constable who was allegedly assaulted by him.
Kapurai police station has booked the accused under BNS) Sections 115 (2); 121(2); 333 296(b) [obscene acts], 308(2) [extortion].
