Madzibaba In Court For Rape Charges

A 55-year-old self-proclaimed prophet from Chief Nyajina’s area in Uzumba was brought before the Murewa Magistrates’ Court on rape charges.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the state alleges that sometime in May 2023, the offender gave a prophecy that the complainant, who is a fellow congregant, would have fertility issues and that she should follow him to his place of residence for prayers. Two weeks later, the complainant went to the offender’s home where she stayed for three days.

The matter came to light on the 1st of February 2025 when the offender told the complainant’s husband that the complainant must go back to the offender’s home to finish the prayers. On the third day, she was instructed to wake up at midnight for a prayer. The offender told her that she had an unknown object in her womb, which could only be removed by having sexual intercourse with him. He threatened her with death if she failed to comply, and then he raped her.

The complainant told her husband that she was not going back there because the offender had once raped her.

A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the offender. He was placed on remand, and he will appear in court again on the 17th of February 2025.
