Man Robbed And Assaulted After All-Night Prayer In Harare

In the early hours of February 15, a 25 year old man Brandon Mukahiwa was robbed and assaulted while walking home from an all-night prayer session at Avivi Shalom Church, located at the NetOne building in Harare Central Business District (CBD).

According to a report made to the police, the incident occurred around 5pm as the victim was walking along Jason Moyo Avenue, approaching Chinhoyi Street and Robert Mugabe Road. It is alleged that Mukahiwa saw four male adults walking towards him, who then ran after him. The four men gang allegedly caught up with him after he fell down.

It is alleged that two of the men grabbed Mukahiwa by the neck, while the other two thoroughly searched his pockets, forcibly taking two Samsung cell phones, an iPhone, a terabyte hard drive, and USD10 in cash. The four men then reportedly fled the scene in different directions with the stolen property.

It is alleged that the victim then pursued one of the alleged culprits towards the NetOne building and sought help from members of the public who assisted him in apprehending one of the alleged robbers and took him to the police where they made a report.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said they are continuing their investigations to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the stolen property.

“On 15 February 2025 at around 0500 hours, the complainant was walking along Jason Moyo coming from all-night prayer at Avivi Shalom Church at NetOne building. On approaching Chinhoyi Street, walking along Robert Mugabe Road, the complainant saw four male adults walking towards him. The four accused persons ran after the complainant and caught up with him after he fell down.

“Two of the four accused persons grabbed the complainant by the neck, whilst the other two searched his pockets thoroughly and forcibly took 2 Samsung cell phones and IPhone, a terabyte hard drive and cash amounting to USD$10-00. The four accused persons fled from the scene in different directions with the complainant’s property.

“The complainant followed one of the accused persons who fled towards NetOne building and sought help from members of the public passing by the scene. With the help of the public, the complainant managed to apprehend one of the accused persons, who was then escorted to ZRP Kopje Market Square Base where a report of Plain Robbery was filed. Scene was attended, and no arrests or recoveries were made. Total value stolen is USD$690-00 and nothing was recovered and the accused one is currently detained at Harare Central,” said Inspector Chakanza.
