In a shocking incident that has left many Harare motorists with questions, an unknown man reportedly stole USD 5,000 on February 15, 2025, from an unlocked parked vehicle at the intersection of Hebert Chitepo Avenue and Third Street in Harare CBD.
According to a report made to the police, Blessing Nguruve parked his blue Toyota Hilux GD6 twin cab at the intersection of Hebert Chitepo Avenue and Third Street. He allegedly offloaded some laundry to a friend parked about 20 meters away.
It is reported that before leaving, Nguruve left his vehicle unattended and unlocked with his valuables inside. Upon returning to the vehicle five minutes later, Nguruve discovered that his wallet, which contained USD 5,000 and was placed between the front seats, had vanished.
Upon discovering the theft, Nguruve made a report to the police.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“On February 15, at around 12:30 hours, the complainant parked his motor vehicle, a blue Toyota Hilux GD6 twin cab, at the intersection of Hebert Chitepo Avenue and Third Street in Harare. Whilst parking, he offloaded some laundry, which he took to his friend, who was parked about 20 meters away.
“Before leaving, he left his vehicle unlocked and unattended with his valuables inside. Upon return to the vehicle some 5 minutes later, he wanted to take some money from his wallet, which was in between the front vehicle seats, only to find the wallet stolen. The accused took advantage of the unlocked vehicle, opened the door, and stole the wallet. The value stolen is USD 5,000,” said Inspector Chakanza.
