28yr Old Mutare Man Jailed 18 Months For Sex With 14-Year-Old Girl
A 28-year-old man from Mt Zuma in Odzi has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of engaging in sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl.
The Mutare Magistrates’ Court heard that the man lured the minor, who is from Nyazura, into a purported love affair in May 2026.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on 21 June 2026, the offender took the child to his residence where they cohabited as husband and wife and engaged in repeated sexual intercourse.
The matter came to light on 29 June 2026 after the victim’s father traced her whereabouts and reported the case to the police.
The court sentenced the man to 30 months’ imprisonment, with 12 months suspended on condition of good behaviour. He will serve an effective 18 months in jail.
The NPA reiterated that under Zimbabwean law, engaging in sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 18 is a serious statutory offence and any purported consent by a minor is legally invalid.
