About 200 health workers in the country have tested positive to COVID-19 due to shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) at the hospitals resulting to some hospitals shutting down.
It is believed that the majority hit by the virus are student nurses who have been left to run the public hospitals in the absence of their fellow qualified nurses who have been on strike demanding US$ salaries, better working conditions among other things.
Zimbabwe today has 2,034 confirmed corona virus (COVID-19) cases and 26 deaths.
