Roki And Kofi’s New Song Sparks Controversy

Rockford Josphat popularly known as Roki’s new song Patati Patata that was released on YouTube today, the 4th of August has already sparked a lot of controversy from most Zimbabweans who are viewing the song as being politicised and favors the ruling Zanu PF party.

The resurrected urban groover featured Congolese rhumba superstar, Koffi Olomide and Tanzanian musician Rayvanny and the song clocked more than one hundred thousand views in 5 hours.

The song has it’s share of good comments from the musicians’ fans all over the globe.

However, the song that was recorded at Passion Java records and produced by Oskid left non Zanu PF supporters disappointed when Koffi Olomide say ‘ED. Mnangagwa, number one’ in his lines.

Other party’s supporters feel as if the song was politicized and concluded that Roki’s music was captured by the Zanu PF.

Journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono described the song as a dead piece.

“The song died before it was even heard. It is probably the most expensive music production in Zimbabwe, but because one name was mentioned in this song, yatofa yakarodha. More importantly, it shows you how citizens hate tyranny and Corruption. Folks are suffering.” He posted on social media.

MDC Alliance Spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere said ED is using artists like Roki to gain popularity.

“So your “plan” is to capture artists, make them sing your praise and then you will suddenly become popular? It will not work! The people can see from their pockets that the country is going in the wrong direction. Rhumba propaganda won’t change this. We need new leaders!” Lamented Mahere.

Below are some of the comments taken from social media:

“The song was flowing, but it killed my spirit when Koffi said “ED” Mnangagwa”… Moses Tshuma.

“It was a very big blunder from Roki, you don’t revive a dead career by going political worse with someone hated and loathed like ED. Now the song has been overwhelmingly rejected.” Brother Martin.
“Well I wanted to support Roki but why mention our no# 1 corrupt leader!? Well I know in terms of cash Zanu pf will bailout Roki but …..The mention of ED was a real put off.” Captain Wamba.
“Nziyo yakatanga ichinakidza but payakangonzi ED then finish, ndopakaperera Career yaRoki.” Mark Antony Makambwa.
“Obvious. It was a Zanupf project from the start, to draw youths to vote for them. Not surprising.” Gracious Cementsaru Mvere.
“I knew it zvangu Zanu pf project aaaaaaah we are tied of it.” Donald Mtasa.
Others rated the song as just bad.
“Inotoda vanhu makadhakwa pasina chamuri kuziva kana kunzwa nxaaa” Sharon Nherera.
“When Java is involved, careers end so easily. Tis song just buried roki who was just coming back to the scene well. It’s sad. Java kamuroi.” Tee Sid.
“Ndakambo zvitaura hangu kuti hapana zvine musoro zvichabuda apo. Same group na herman na fifi.” Prosper Makusha.
“Hapana zviripo kutitambisira data.” Lilly Melanie
“Always publish your plans after achieving the goals, hezvo our expectations went too high. Koffie ft Diamond Platinum still occupies the front seat.” Liberty Chiyambukira.
Even though Roki in his lines never mentioned ED or anything political, the song was tarnished by Koffi’s lines. To what extent will this song impact on Roki’s career? Only time will tell.
