Chitungwiza town council Mayor, Lovemore Maiko, and his deputy Musa Makweza were yesterday arrested on allegations of abuse of office through corrupt activities involving in the sale of commercial stands.
The arrest was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Publicity, Nick Mangwana.
“In other matters, a warrant of arrest has been issued against the Mayor Chitungwiza Town Council and another for the Deputy Mayor.” Nick Mangwana tweeted.
Councillor Lovemore Maiko who assumed office four months ago, is among top officials arrested under President Mnangagwa’s calling for zero tolerance to corruption.
In April 2017 Government suspended former Chitungwiza Mayor Phillip Mutoti and 24 other councillors for allegedly corruptly allocating themselves tracts of land worth over $7 million.
