The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the Arrest of Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono on allegations of “obstructing the course of justice.”
In a statement, ZRP stated that Hopewell Chin’ono was arrested for tarnishing the image of the court through his twitter handle.
“Allegations are that between 25th and 27th October 2020, the suspect used his twitter account @daddyhope to post messages that impaired the dignity, reputation and authority of the court whilst clearly intending to do so.” The statement read.
Furthermore, Hopewell Chin’ono is being accused of being in a secret communication with members of the (NPA) as he is allegedly accused of confirming that on twitter.
“Secondly, Hopewell Chin’ono has confirmed through his twitter handle that he is in secret and unlawful communication with members of National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), an institution that is prosecuting him. This has serious implications as it undermines the integrity of the criminal proceedings against him.” The statement further read.
The arrest of Hopewell Chin’ono was announced last night by Political Activist, Alex T Magaisa.
Efforts to get a comment from Hopewell Chin’ono’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa before publication of this post proved abortive as her phone rang unanswered.
