Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono Denied Bail

Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who was arrested last week on charges of defeating the course of justice over Twitter comment about the NPA has been denied bail.

Appearing before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, the bail was denied on the basis that Hopewell Chin’ono has a “propensity to commit offenses”.

However the outspoken journalist has no criminal conviction as of now.

His trial on separate charges of incitement of violence emanating from the flopped #31July protests, the run up to which he is alleged to have incited the nation to commit acts of violence via his Twitter handle will run from December 7-9.

Chin’ono previously spent 45days in remand at Chikurubhi maximum security prison on the charge of incitement of violence before eventually being granted bail by the High Court.
