On December 04, the High Court delayed the proceedings of Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono’s trial which was set to commence on 7 December on charges of “incitement to participate in public violence.” pending the determination of his review application.
The trial that had been set for the dates 7, 8 and 9 December 2020 will therefore proceed as scheduled but has been postponed to next year on 18th January 2021.
Posting on his twitter page @daddyhope, Chin’ono said, ”My trial which was supposed to start today was stopped by the High Court order after l asked for the magistrate to be recused, and also asked the High Court to dismiss magistrate Ngoni Nduna’s ruling party when removed my lead lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa.”
The date of next year comes after Justice Happias Zhou heard that the application of an urgent chamber had been filed by Chin’ono’s lawyers.
Chin’ono was arrested on 03 November 2020 from charges of criminal law (Codification and Reform) Act.
